The QE2 has been bought from Cunard for £50m by Dubai World for delivery in November 2008. She will be berthed at a specially constructed pier at the Palm Jumeira luxury 'island' deveopment off the coast of Dubai. She will be refurbiished to as near as possible her original decor and fittings. There will also be a museum celebrating her rich history since she entered service in 1969.

The ship was built at the John Brown shipyard on the Clyde for £29m and is the the longest serving vessel in Cunard's 168 year history, but despite her age , she is still (in 2007) the fastest liner in operation, being capable of 34 knots.

She was Cunard's flagship until the Queen Mary 2 replaced her in 2004 although the QE2 continued in service and served as a troopship in the Falkland war in 1982.
